Some readers may have noticed the abstract banner that adorns this simple site. I specifically extracted it from Henri Matisse‘s Goldfish & Palette, part of the Museum of Modern Art‘s permanent collection. As MoMA’s brief online analysis states, this transcendent piece encapsulates an inherent paradox that all artists face: when one stops creating, can one say that the process of constructing a piece has finished? What processes should an artist utilize to produce an image in this field and business that doesn’t simply convey information, but also transcends explanation to inspire the viewer?

These questions undoubtedly lie at the heart of every filmmaker; in the least, they always nag at me as I continue upon this quest as a storyteller/filmmaker/cinematographer to produce meaningful content for the world. I did not enter this profession to simply make ‘content’, although I must do so to make ends meet. I ultimately pursue my craft because I aspire to fulfill an instinctual drive to eventually create something pure, something true, something meaningful and altogether wonderful. I presume that many of my filmmaking peers feel the same way about their work; why else would we eschew stable jobs and normal hours to do this maddeningly difficult profession?

This industry needs a resource that equips likeminded individuals whom have dedicated their careers to this noble art form of creating motion pictures—be it through new media, television, or for theatrical distribution—to create pieces that approach increasingly closer to that asymptotic limit of our artistic visions. We need all the help we can get to collectively reach that goal; I see no better way than to collaborate and share our knowledge to that great endeavour.

And so, this journal has come into fruition; feel free to read, and please let me know if you’d like to participate in and contribute to the PROCESS. 😉
